Chianti Classico: the authentic soul of Tuscany
Chianti Classico is not just a wine: it is a territory, a millenary history, and a cultural identity deeply rooted in the heart of Tuscany. Here, among the gentle hills that stretch from Florence to Siena, one of the most famous wines in the world is born, whose emblem – the Gallo Nero (Black Rooster) – is a guarantee of authenticity, quality, and tradition.
The Chianti Classico Consortium, founded in 1924, chose the Gallo Nero as its official symbol, inspired by a medieval legend that tells how this animal decided the fate of the border between Florence and Siena. Since then, this mark has represented the essence of the territory and the strength of a community that has made wine an art.
Produced according to strict regulations, Chianti Classico must contain at least 80% Sangiovese grapes, the prince grape variety of the region, often accompanied by native or international varieties. The result is an elegant and structured wine, with an unmistakable character, capable of telling every nuance of its terroir.
The designation "Chianti Classico DOCG" and the Gallo Nero mark on the bottle are guarantees of origin and superior quality. Every sip is a journey through sunny hills, woods, olive groves, and ancient villages: a heritage we want to preserve and share, with pride and respect.
The legend
Between history and myth in the heart of Chianti
It is said that, in ancient times, the ancient republics of Florence and Siena, long-time rivals, decided to end the disputes over the borders of the Chianti territory with a singular pact: at dawn, two knights – one for each city – would depart at a gallop towards the center of the region, at the moment of the rooster's crow. The point where they met would mark the new border.
But while the Sienese chose a beautiful white rooster, fed it well and prepared it with care, the Florentines relied on a more cunning idea: they chose a black rooster and kept it hungry for days. On the appointed day, driven by hunger, the black rooster crowed much before dawn, allowing the Florentine knight to depart with a large advance.
The meeting took place at Fonterutoli, a few kilometers from Siena, marking a clear victory for Florence and an extension of its domain over most of Chianti. Since then, the Gallo Nero has become a symbol not only of cunning and strategy, but also of identity and belonging to this extraordinary territory. Today it stands proudly on bottles of Chianti Classico, as a guarantee of authenticity, quality, and deep connection with history.
